Home Addition Fair Oaks, CA
Addition on the Levee
Project Overview
Build Type: Addition | Primary Suite Expansion
Completion: 2023
Scope: 520 SF addition including bedroom, bathroom, and walk-in closet; deck and retaining wall; finish and structural tie-ins.
The Addition on the Levee was a special project for a young, growing family who needed more space to match their lifestyle. This 520-square-foot primary suite addition was designed to create a private retreat for the parents while keeping the addition cohesive with the home’s original California ranch style.
The goal was to give the home a refreshed, earthy, and timeless feel that honored its roots while meeting modern needs. Natural wood tones, brass fixtures, and warm textures brought a European-inspired sophistication, perfectly blending comfort and craftsmanship.
Client Aspirations
With a growing family, the clients needed an additional bedroom and a serene primary suite that offered privacy and relaxation after long days. They wanted a space that felt connected to the rest of the home but also served as a peaceful escape — a place that balanced beauty, function, and comfort.
Transformation Highlights
Design & Cohesion
Preserved the home’s original ranch-style charm while introducing updated, modern finishes and materials.
Structural Solutions
Added a retaining wall and deck to accommodate the lot’s slope and new footprint.
Thoughtful Layout
Included a bay window, white oak reeded built-ins, and a luxurious new bathroom designed for function and serenity.
Construction Challenges
Clients lived in the home throughout construction, so safety and cleanliness were top priorities; temporary partitions ensured separation from the work area.
Added Functionality
Converted the former primary bath into a youthful, durable space for the children.
Site constraints
Lot setbacks and slope required creative planning and engineering to provide space without sacrificing usability.
The REsult
The completed addition feels seamless — a natural extension of the original home, filled with light, warmth, and texture. The new suite gives the couple a private, spa-like retreat while maintaining harmony with the rest of the home’s design. Every element, from the reeded woodwork to the brass fixtures, reflects Tankersley’s dedication to thoughtful craftsmanship and livable luxury.
